Overview
Ngangao Forest
Ngangao Forest is a rare closed-canopy cloud forest and one of the most important ecological sites in the Taita Hills. It is an internationally recognized Important Bird Area, home to endemic species found only in Taita Taveta County, including the Taita White-eye, Taita Apalis, and Taita Thrush. With gentle terrain and well-marked trails, the forest offers an accessible yet rich experience for nature walks, birdwatching, and biodiversity conservation.
Jomo Kenyatta Caves
The Jomo Kenyatta Caves, locally known as the Kino Caves, are a site of great historical significance in Kenya’s anti-colonial struggle. The caves were used as hideouts and meeting places by freedom fighters, including Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, for strategic discussions with Kenyan nationalists and regional leaders such as Julius Nyerere. Today, the caves stand as a powerful symbol of resistance, unity, and shared East African liberation history.
